Had a discussion w/ an admissions consultant who basically gave me some general information of what I need to know to get into a top MBA school.
1. Age is not a factor, which is a relief because I was beginning to wonder if waiting til I was 30 was too late for me in my career.
2. Don’t get so bogged down on geography. Those who want to go to the top schools will get there and should not let anything hinder them, especially something as stationary and immobile as a house (unless of course you’re living out of an RV)
3. Average GPA’s don’t cut it. Take some extra courses to show how much you have changed since college. Make sure you get A’s in your classes.
4. Community service is important, not so much as evidence of someone giving back to the community as it shows a willingness to engage in an environment that’s outside your comfort zone.
5. GMAT scores are extremely important. Goal is a minimum of 700, but above 700 should be the target score you should achieve.
