VCIC - Venture Capital Investment Competition- is organized by UNC’s Kenan Flagler Business School and is now in its 12th year. It has 4 stages: School, Regional (Goizueta competes in the South East), National and International.

Personal testimony

Last year I had the opportunity to be part of a great team – Kate, Rainier, Alok & Tom. All but Kate were First Year students, two months into the school year. Econ, Accounting, Marketing and Finance were fresh. The experience helped me realize how much I’ve learned so far. The Q&A made me realize how much more is there to learn to be a VC.

This year I have the honor to be the chair of the Goizueta VCIC and this post explains about the competition and serves as an open invitationsfor companies and VCs to take a part in this unique opportunity to meet each other, network and share from their knowledge and experience with a great group of students.

The competition

Brings together entrepreneurs, VC people and students who play the rule of Venture Capital firms in a two part event:

Preparation (Friday)

  • Participating companies send their business plans, financial reports and market analysis and demos – if available. Everything you, the entrepreneur would like to send to a VC prior to your initial meeting to raise money
  • Students learn about the companies, briefly analyze their data and prepare the companies’ pitch
  • Each team meets each of the representatives for a 30 min. VC session. What’s a VC session? An entrepreneur pitches his company and the VCs – students – are asking questions, based on their analysis.
  • Each team is meeting to analyze the data, gain better understanding of the companies and decide - Which company will their VC. How long does it take – Get ready to a loooong night.

Presentation (Saturday)

  •  Judges – VC, entrepreneurs and presentation specialist
  • Presentors – Teams who spent the evening/night to develop an investing decision – based on their personal experience, their recently gained business knowledge and yesterday’s sessions
  • Special guests – Companies’ representatives who are waiting
  • Q&A – Get ready to explain yur choice and learn.

A WIN-WIN-WIN event
