720 and Up!
720 is my target score for GMAT. However, until now that remains a far and an elusive score.
I first measured my GMAT readiness through the simulation exam provided by mba.com and I got a pitiful score of 340. Then, I reviewed and got into the whole preparation thing for about several weeks (on and off). Then last Sunday, I again tested myself for which I got an improved score of 420. It’s, of course, still pitiful. I only have 20 days left before my scheduled examination and I’m not yet that ready. Anyhow, I’m doing the best I could to improve my score. I hope I would get at least a 720 GMAT score.
The GMAT exam is an adaptive computerized examiner that measures the test taker in 2 areas namely Math and English. (The third is essay which they call Analytical Writing Assessment) It adopts to the capability of a person using this simple logic. It will give you a relatively medium problem at first then if the taker gets it correct it will give you a bit more harder problem to solve. However, if you get the previous questions wrong, it will then give you an easier question next. The only thing about this is that, It penalizes/rewards the taker the most during the first, probably 12, questions of the test.
Since I am really gunning to get into Harvard Business School (and other top schools as well)… I really need to get at least a 700 score in GMAT to increase my chances of being admitted.
What is the range of GMAT scores for accepted students?
The Admissions Board hopes that all applicants will recognize the following: the full range of GMAT scores is very broad, that there is no “minimum” score requirement, and that the GMAT is just one piece of data among the many used to evaluate an application. 50% of the Class of 2009 scored between 700 and 740 on the GMAT.
